Hello
I’m Rachel Matthews, a qualified counsellor and clinical supervisor based in the West Midlands.
I have been described as kind and compassionate, but I’m also inquisitive and comfortable having difficult conversations.
I’m able to sit with the uncomfortable and support you to make sense of a mix of emotions.
About Me
You may be looking for support with:
-
feeling anxious or overwhelmed
-
low mood or confidence
-
difficulties in relationships
-
grief or loss
-
feeling stuck or unsure what’s next
I have experience supporting people with anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, anger, and bereavement (including child loss), as well as those living with additional needs, sleep issues and parenting challenges. I have also worked extensively with young people in schools.
I work with adults and young people aged 12+ using an integrative approach, drawing on person-centred counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
I have a professional background working in the media and understand some of the difficulties work can bring.
Faith and spirituality are important elements of my life, so I'm happy to explore these further if this is helpful to you.
I believe each client is the expert of themselves (even if at times, it's hard to feel that way at the beginning), and I will always be guided by you in the work we do together.
"Mental health problems don't define who you are.
They are something you experience.
You walk in the rain and you feel the rain, but you are not the rain."

“Expressing old hurts and present worries through drawing with someone who is receptive to the emotions being expressed in the pictures, activates a powerful healing mechanism in the psyche, possibly through the combination of drawing and talking combined with different sides of the brain interacting with each other.”
