Hello
I am Rachel Matthews, and I am a trained counsellor.
I have been described as kind and compassionate, but I'm also inquisitive and happy to have difficult conversations.
I'm comfortable with the uncomfortable and can sit with a mix of emotions.
My Story
I have experience of working with anxiety, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, anger management, bereavement (including child loss), living with additional needs, sleep issues, parenting problems, and as a school counsellor, I have also worked with many teenagers.
I work with adults and children aged 12+ using an integrative model of counselling of Person Centred Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).
I have a professional background working in the media and understand some of the difficulties work can bring.
Faith and spirituality are important elements of my life, so I'm happy to explore these further if this is helpful to you.
I believe each client is the expert of themselves (even if at times, it's hard to feel that way at the beginning), and I will always be guided by you to the work we'll do together.
"Mental health problems don't define who you are.
They are something you experience.
You walk in the rain and you feel the rain, but you are not the rain."

“Expressing old hurts and present worries through drawing with someone who is receptive to the emotions being expressed in the pictures, activates a powerful healing mechanism in the psyche, possibly through the combination of drawing and talking combined with different sides of the brain interacting with each other.”
